The CFO Leadership Beyond Finance Program was an excellent opportunity to connect with other senior finance executives and CFOs in a collaborative and engaging manner. It was a great balance of leadership coaching, strategic decision-making beyond finance, and governance—coupled with the opportunity to network and share experiences with other CFOs. It helped me further enhance my ability to be a strategic business partner and advisor to my CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors.
I have participated in two cohorts of the Leadership Program as CFO in Residence. In this capacity, I have supported the content of the program with real world experience of how the teachings apply in practice. The Leadership Beyond Finance imparts skills to finance executives that provide valuable contributions to the strategy of their organization. The ability to discuss the application of these skills in and out of class allows participants to learn from common experiences and to frame the learnings for their own businesses. Participation in the in-residence program is one component of the learning journey. Participants use the relationships built during the program to foster an ongoing network that serves for continuous learning.
As someone who participated as a CFO-in-Residence, I was always impressed with the professionalism, depth of knowledge, and presentation skills of the professors delivering the program, which in combination with the experienced CFlO’s (many of which are past winners of CFO of the Year for Canada designation) participating on panels or providing real work experiences in support of the material, provided an intense and unique career development experience. Without exception, the participants in the course were enthusiastic and engaged, sharing their experiences and discussing real issues they were dealing with in the workplace. Many participants develop professional and personal contacts through the course which will be available throughout their career. I certainly maintain ongoing contact with a number of the course participants.
From time to time the CFO Leadership Beyond Finance Program attracts the attention of Canada’s top business media.
